The letter is not the accuracy. A classic play is lettered on progress — accuracy, score and tempo weighted equally — and a play recorded under the newer scoring is lettered on execution, how much of what was actually played got landed. That number sits next to each letter, so a high grade over a modest accuracy is the tempo and the score talking. Tempo is the average written bar speed of the run; the oldest plays never recorded one.
